Vo Švédsku objavili najstarší strom na svete. Ide o 9550-ročný smrek

Stromy sú jedny z najdlhšie žijúcich organizmov na zemi a tento osamelý smrek nie je výnimkou. Rastie na vrchu hory vo Švédsku a vďaka svojej výnimočnosti má aj vlastné meno – Old Tjikko – ktoré mu dal v roku 2004 jeho objaviteľ profesor Leif Kullman a inšpiroval sa pri tom menom svojho psa a je to najstarší strom na svete, má až 9,550 rokov.

Ide o strom, ktorým Európania tradične zdobili príbytky v čase Vianoc a jeho neuveriteľná dlhovekosť je spôsobená silným koreňovým systémom a schopnosťou klonovať sa. Kmeň tohto stromu prežije maximálne 600 rokov, ale keď odumrie, z rovnakého koreňa začne rásť nový kmeň. Kvôli studenej klíme bol celé tisícročia iba malým stromčekom a do svojej impozantnej výšky narástol v priebehu posledných 100 rokov.

After seeing Njupeskär I remembered that the old tree called Ol' Tjikko was in the same region as us, what i didn't know was that it was so close to us! I had a general direction to go too but trying to identify the small spruce from all the other vegetation was harder than expected. After a little research and looking at some pics i found on Google I could try and triangulate the position of the tree, AND IT TOTALLY WORKED!!! I couldn't belive I actually found it, and touched it ;D This tree was considered to be the oldest tree in the world when in fact its the 3rd oldest clonal tree in the world. So it's the organism itself that has lived for 9550 years and not the tree , it is considered the longest living spruce tho. The tallest part of the tree has actually come in later years when the climate changed into a more favourable one.
